Information

The students in National Honor Society started off running this year. Already in the first three months of school they have accumulated more than 200 hours. These hours are from varied events, such as Special Day for Special People, the NHS Blood Drive, and tutoring other students.

Special Day for Special People is an annual event that happens in September. Students and other helpers go to Myrick Park to get a buddy for the day with special needs. There are many activities for them to do, such as singing, going to the zoo, and going on a hayride.

Our goal for the NHS blood drive was surpassed this year, as 52 people gave blood and three gave platelets. There were many students who were intimidated this year, but they all got through it! They realized the importance of giving blood and went through with it without any regret.

NHS students tutor both high school and middle school students. This allows them to better understand the topics themselves since they now have to be the teacher. Tutoring provides help in school, but also forms friendships with the tutor and the student.

Other activities that students have participated in are: Stepping Out in Pink, Soccer Concessions, Downtown Days, St. Patrick’s Reading Night, St. Patrick’s Fall Festival, Sesquicentennial, and helping at Eagle Bluff. These are a few examples of all the service that NHS provides to Aquinas High School and surrounding communities. Through volunteering, students gain valuable experience and learn more about themselves.
